Don't be judgmental. Don't dismiss self harm automatically as attention-seeking or manipulative. Remeber that self harm is not an suicide attempt, but it may be a warning sign, so feel alarmed.  Self-harm provides relief from feelings of self-loathing and depression. It may bring euphoria. Look at the individual, not the harm. Look at the person beyond the scars. Scars are not important. The person that did them is important.
